Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995 by singer and pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody. The band became internationally known following the release of their debut album Fallen in 2003.
Evanescence's music combines elements of alternative metal, hard rock, gothic rock, and orchestral music. The band is known for Amy Lee’s piano-driven songwriting, emotional lyrics, and dramatic visual style.
The group has released multiple studio albums including Fallen, The Open Door, Evanescence, Synthesis, The Bitter Truth, and Sanctuary.
History

[edit]Amy Lee and Ben Moody formed Evanescence after meeting at a youth camp in Arkansas. During the late 1990s, the band released several demo recordings and EPs which circulated online among fans.

Fallen era (2003–2004)
[edit]Evanescence achieved worldwide success with the release of Fallen in 2003. The album featured the singles:
Fallen sold millions of copies worldwide and earned the band multiple Grammy Awards.
The Open Door (2006–2009)
[edit]The band's second studio album, The Open Door, was released in 2006. The album featured a darker and more experimental sound.

In 2017, Evanescence released Synthesis, which reimagined older songs with orchestral arrangements and electronic production.
The Bitter Truth and Sanctuary (2020–present)
[edit]The Bitter Truth was released in 2021 and marked the band's return to full rock production after a decade-long gap between studio albums.
In 2026, the band announced their sixth studio album, Sanctuary, alongside the lead single "Who Will You Follow".
