If You Don't Mind is a song by American rock band Evanescence. Written during the recording sessions for the band's second studio album, The Open Door (2006), the song was ultimately left off the final album track listing. It remained unreleased until 2017, when it appeared on the compilation album Lost Whispers.

The track became one of the band's most well-known unreleased songs among fans and was performed live several years before its official release.

Background

[edit]

If You Don't Mind was recorded during sessions for The Open Door between 2005 and 2006. Although completed, the song was not selected for inclusion on the album.

Over the years, the track gained attention among fans as one of several unreleased songs from the era. Rumors circulated that it would be released as a B-side to "Good Enough", but no official release occurred at the time.

In September 2012, Amy Lee invited fans to vote on which unreleased song they wanted to hear performed live. If You Don't Mind won the poll over another unreleased track, "Your Love".

Live performances

[edit]

The song made its live debut on October 4, 2012, during a concert at Pepsi On Stage in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

Before performing the song, Amy Lee explained that the band had wanted to share it with fans for many years. The performance was well received and helped increase interest in the unreleased studio version.

Leak and release

[edit]

A studio recording of If You Don't Mind leaked online in January 2013.

The song received its first official release on December 9, 2016, as part of Lost Whispers, a vinyl compilation included with The Ultimate Collection box set. It later became available digitally on February 17, 2017.

Composition

[edit]

The song features the dark, atmospheric style associated with the The Open Door era. Musically, it combines piano-driven melodies with heavy guitars and emotional vocals.

Lyrically, the song explores themes of frustration, betrayal, and emotional separation.
